Arturo Sommariva
Senior Scientist
Arturo Sommariva has a strong background in the chemistry of metals and metallurgy and inorganic wastes recovery. He has experience in a wide range of fields such as recovery of heavy metals and noble metals to avoid disposal or loss, mainly of lead, but also chromium, manganese, silver, gold, platinum, cadmium, antimony and bismuth, by different environmentally friendly methods like electrolysis or water-through-processes in an energy-efficient manner. A process designer and plant concept designer, he worked on efficiency increase systems for air and water purification by means such as ultra and nanofiltration. Arturo is currently active as a consultant-researcher and production manager of a number of Italian companies.
Arturo is also an active inventor, inter alia of a process to recover silica and lead from waste glass from CRT screens, solar panels and other glass matrixes,. He was recently awarded a patent on an environmentally friendly lead paste extraction process from lead-acid batteries (2022), jointly with Giovanni Modica. He is an inventor of an electrolytic system to recover lead from alkaline solutions with high purity and yield. Arturo is an Italian national and holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Chemistry (2017) from the University of Parma, Italy.
